Before he can get word on his promotion, an alien arrives seeking help for her shipmates who are stranded at the edge of the known galaxy. Kirk (Chris Pine) has become so bored he's applied for a new job at a massive space station the Federation has constructed. A sort of malaise has set in as the search for strange new worlds has become a bit mundane.Д¬apt. 'Star Trek Beyond' picks up with the crew of the Enterprise a little more than halfway through their five-year mission. Lin combines the kind of full-speed-ahead action that he brought to the 'Fast & Furious' franchise with a story that hearkens back to the days when Gene Roddenberry was creating the show. But even with a mediocre middle this is still pretty good.Thanks to director Justin Lin, 'Star Trek Beyond' is the most fierce in the 50-year history of the franchise. The first 30 minutes and the last 20 minutes are really great, and if the middle portion kept up to speed with those this would be one of the best monster movies of the decade. The writers put in some pretty clever horror movie references and do a pretty good job of spinning the tropes onto their heads and surprising us every few reels. This is a really solid 'trapped inside with monsters outside' movie and certainly the best film to come out of Project Greenlight. What the hell does 'Feast' have going for it? But when an entire film is based on the premise that it's a parody of what it ultimately is, all you're left with is an unlikeable mess. There's nothing wrong with a little post modern self awareness. There's nothing wrong with exploitation cinema. It's cringe-inducingly awful from its thoughtless creature design, by the numbers characters right down to the z-grade rock soundtrack. It doesn't quite pull it off, unfortunately, due to one overwhelming flaw: it's a pile of crap. Using its writers' awareness of genre hallmarks, 'Feast' hopes its exploitation of stereotypes will carry it over as a wry homage to the creature feature genre. i wouldn't recommend it to anyone at all.

i almost didn't finish it, but there was always that 'what if' in the back of my mind, hoping that something awesome would happen and salvage my opinions of it. and with fairly good ratings from the audience, i was excited to watch it (because really, who goes by the critic's reviews?) you could tell it was trying to be funny, but i just wasn't on board. So this is one of those 'let's make fun of the horror genre' type horror movies. Mindless splatter is fine, but it at least needs to be entertaining, and this one feast that I will not be asking for a second helping. It is a wannabe grindhouse film, and is a complete mess from start to finish. I don't mind a movie that winks at the camera, but this one comes off as trying way to hard. I am not sure if the acting was intentionally bad, but no one in the movie did a good job. It has a very inconstant tone which sets the film back drastically. It tries too hard to be funny, and the jokes never seem to land. The creature design and the gore effects are all top notch, but the movie fails as a whole.
